‘Even’ is the self-titled debut of Jay Glass Dubs and Sissi Rada, two halves of an experimentalist coin.
Here, their collaboration bears fruit to a 7-track EP grounded in avant-gardism.
From liminal pop abstractions to trailing, cavernous, and sparse dub-wise sentiments,‘Even’ is an exercise in subtle contrasts, its harsher moments bearing up against a warmth of stringed melodic bliss. These are sonic affects that, whilst often abstract, retain an arms length with something human, something sentimental. For in one moment lush harp lines glitter over lazy brushed drums whilst at others, saturated percussive distortion drives under a haunting vocal haze.
These juxtapositions coalesce to form a concrete spirituality, something ‘Even’, an equilibrium of sorts found between two artists who differ in their respective approaches.
At once a soundtrack for slinking nights and a composition for some earthbound lullaby.
